Overview

AUT, as the university for the changing world, is committed to global engagement. We see the creation of a culturally diverse community as central to our work in education and research and as an important aspect of the learning experience offered here at AUT.

We have developed a range of strategic partnerships at senior levels with overseas governments, institutions and organisations, in particular with South East Asian countries such as Thailand and Vietnam. We work in partnership with institutions to facilitate teaching visits for our academic staff and we offer numerous collaborative programmes with institutions across the world.

AUT, through international research programmes and the recruitment of international students, is able to provide students with opportunities to interact and learn from each other, to develop an understanding and appreciation of cultural differences, and to apply this understanding in today's world. Our researchers are contributing to academic debate at the highest level and are using leading edge international research to inform their research and scholarship.

AUT's international partnerships provide us with insights and knowledge to meet the complex challenges of globalisation. These partnerships are developed and supported by AUT's dedicated International Relations & Development team.

Expenses

his page lists other compulsory fees for AUT students in addition to the tuition fees. AUT invoices you for the Compulsory Student Services Fee and the Building Levy at the same time as we invoice you for your tuition fees. Distance learning and exchange students are exempt from these fees.

Compulsory Student Services Fee

The Compulsory Student Services Fee helps AUT to fund services for students that are not covered by tuition fees, for example:

  • Extending library hours
  • Increasing wireless access across AUT’s campuses
  • Providing at least $40,000 per year for AUT’s student business mentoring programme

2017 Compulsory Student Services Fee

$614.80 for 120 points or $5.12 per academic point (GST incl)

Building Levy

The Building Levy covers maintenance, restoration and development of student facilities and buildings, and the future construction of a City Campus Recreation Centre.

2017 Building Levy
$68.20 for 120 points or $0.57 per academic point (GST incl)

Who needs to pay these other compulsory fees?

All students except distance learning and exchange students. Distance learning and exchange students are exempt from these fees because they don't use the campus services and facilities. Distance learning means that the teaching department have confirmed that no portion of the paper is taught on campus.

Why AUT charges students these fees

We used to fund these services through your tuition fees. However, on their own, these are no longer sufficient to fund student services and facilities, on top of the costs of providing high quality teaching. The Government has indicated that it will not be boosting investment in the university sector in the future, so our only option is to ask students to help cover the costs of the services they use.
