Overview

The Alamo Community College District (ACCD) is a community college system serving the San Antonio, Texas, USA metropolitan area. ACCD consists of five colleges which operate with a high degree of autonomy: San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College, Northwest Vista College, and Northeast Lakeview College. All of the colleges are within San Antonio city limits except Northeast Lakeview, which is within the town limits of Universal City, just to the northeast of the City of San Antonio. The system serves about 100,000 students in academic and continuing education programs, employs about 5,300 faculty and staff, and had a budget of $277 million for 2009. The value of its endowment on June 30, 2011 was $11.9 million.

ACCD is the tenth largest college system in the United States, the second largest system in Texas.

The District offers over 325 degree and certificate programs. Most courses taken within the district are meant to apply for AA, AS, AAS, AAA, and AAT degrees which help students apply for jobs or of which can be transferred to four-year institutions.

 

Expenses

The Cost of Attendance (COA) is determined by the Office of Student Financial Services and is based on the average costs a student will incur during the academic year. Included in the COA are average tuition and fee costs, a room and board allowance, books and supplies, transportation, and personal/miscellaneous expenses. The actual cost will vary depending on whether a student chooses to live at home with their parents, or independently. Transportation costs will also vary depending on proximity to the campus and mode of transportation.
Definitions

  • Tuition and Fees: The average cost of tuition and fees for a typical undergraduate student based on full-time or part-time enrollment. Full-time undergraduate = 30 hours per academic year; Part-time undergraduate = 18 hours per academic year.
  • Room and Board: A reasonable estimate of what it would cost to live in San Antonio while attending school. Actual costs may vary by individual choices related to location and circumstances.
  • Books and Supplies: The average cost of books and supplies for a typical student for an entire academic year.
  • Transportation: Average transportation expenses are based on an average 30 mile round trip to campus.
  • Personal and Miscellaneous: Average expenses are calculated based on potential expenses that students might incur such as: personal computers, personal items or emergency expenses.

Accommodation

Classroom accommodations are designed to help level the playing field for students with disabilities. Accommodations should not offer an unfair advantage to a student because the student has a disability.  Refer to the list below for the most common approved accommodations.

Exams Accommodations

  1. One of the common accommodations approved by the Access Office involves alternative conditions in which to complete exams. This accommodation is offered through the Assessment Office on the campus of Northwest Vista College. In order for a student to utilize these accommodations, an Exam Request Form that explains the conditions of the assessment must be completed and turned in to the Assessment Office in Cypress Campus Center, Room 207 (CCC-207). If desired this form can be submitted electronically via e-mail (first, download the form and fill it out then, second, attach the pdf to an email and send to: nvc-assessment@alamo.edu with Subject: Exam Request Form).
  2. The Assessment Office will monitor the student’s exam if desired.
  3. The Assessment Office must be notified four working days prior to the exam if the student wants a reader, scribe or use of a private room.
  4. If the student is approved to listen to music during the exam, the testing center may spot-check the music player to ensure test integrity.
